Frequently Asked Questions

  • I work primarily with those navigating anxiety, chronic stress or illness, long-standing patterns of overwhelm, and the impact of trauma—whether it’s a single event or something that has unfolded over many years. Together we look at how these experiences, thoughts, and relationships, and we build a way forward that feels grounded, sustainable, and true to you.

  • Sessions are conversational, collaborative, and shaped by what you bring in that day. Sometimes we talk, sometimes we slow down to notice what’s happening in your body, and sometimes we might include art, EMDR, or somatic exercises if it feels supportive. My goal is that you leave each session feeling steadier, clearer, and more resourced—not flooded or destabilized.

  • We decide together, based on your goals, your history, and what your nervous system can comfortably hold in the moment. There is no one-size-fits-all plan; some sessions are highly structured (like EMDR), while others are more exploratory (like art or somatic work). We check in often and adjust as needed.

  • No. Many clients begin with talk therapy and gentle nervous-system regulation skills, and then decide if and when they’d like to incorporate art, EMDR, or somatic work. You always have a choice, and you are encouraged to speak up (or develop your voice to speak up) about what does or doesn’t feel right for you.

  • I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), approved by the South Carolina Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors, Addictions Counselors and Marital & Family Therapists.

I am also actively being trained in Somatic Experiencing and working toward a certification as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). Estimated completion date: September 2027.

Additional training in Basic EMDR was completed January 2025 by EMDRConnect which is an EMDRIA approved program.

  • How long you stay in therapy is completely up to you. Like I mentioned before, there are some people that want relief from their most acute symptoms, i.e. ruminating, startling easily, a lack of motivation to be with others, etc.

If there is a specific struggle you have after a traumatic event, like a disruptive dream or flashback, EMDR or Somatic Experiencing may be best suited to integrate those memories and can often be resolved within 1-2 months of weekly sessions.

More complex or lifetime struggles will often take much longer, usually several months to years. The reason for this is most often because with complex trauma there is usually a history of attachment wounding. Meaning, the environment and the relationships that we grew up with as children or adolescents weren't adaptive for adult life. So the most challenging and rewarding part of the therapy process is building trust between the two of us. Once we have trust built, then we can navigate through the struggles as a team and help you experience the difference of being in an unconditionally caring space and what that does to support your nervous system.
